Dear Kapolei Middle School Parents and Guardians,

I hope this letter finds you in continued health and safety. Thank you all for your patience, perseverance and commitment to your child(ren’s) education. On Monday, September 28, 2020, Campbell-Kapolei Complex Area Superintendent sent a letter stating that all of the schools in the Campbell-Kapolei Complex Area will continue in their distance learning (learn from home) model for the entire 2nd quarter. Complex Area Superintendent further stated that each school will allow a limited number of students on campus. For Kapolei Middle School, we will be prioritizing the possibility of allowing students who are not successful or are struggling in distance learning to be physically back on campus.

In preparation for this transition, the following factors will be taken into consideration:

  • Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the State of Hawaii Department of Health (HDOH) Metrics

  • HDOH 14 day positive case report / Hawaii Metrics for School Reopening

  • COVID-19 Positivity Transmission Rate

  • Facility and Capacity

The safety and health of our students and staff continue to be of the utmost priority as we navigate through these unprecedented times. The HIDOH 14 day positive case report/ Hawaii Metrics for School Reopening was last updated on HIDOH’s website on Thursday, September 17, 2020 and reported 19.9 cases per 10,000 rate for the island of Oahu from September 1-14, 2020.

HIDOH will be updating this data bi-weekly. For the month of October, data will be updated on:

  • Oct. 2, 2020, Oct. 16, 2020, Oct. 30, 2020

Upon each update, I will report the data and continue to provide updates in regard to our school reopening.

In addition, HIDOE announced yesterday that HIDOE’s Grab-and-Go school meals program will return this Fall. The program provides free meals to children ages 18 and younger. The meals are available to all children, regardless or whether or not they are enrolled at a public school.

Kapolei Middle School will be one of the food distribution sites. Grab-and-Go meals will be available from Monday, October 12, 2020 through Friday, December 18, 2020 from 12:10pm to 12:40pm, Monday through Friday excluding holidays and designated school breaks. Unlike the summer, meal distribution will be at lunchtime only. Meals distributed will include one lunch for the day and one breakfast for the following day per child. Meals may be picked up without children present, but parents and guardians must provide one of the following verification documents:

  • Official letter or email from school listing child(ren) enrolled

  • Recent student report card(s)

  • Attendance record from parent portals of school website

  • Birth certificate

  • Student ID

  • Driver’s permit/ license for high school students

  • State issued ID for the child
